As we searched for our ancestors, we discovered that our filing cabinets became filled with photocopies of pages from various books. We had a good system and could find things, but could never take our whole filing cabinet to the library where we conducted research. Once computers became available, we desired to put all our information into our computer; a very long and time consuming task. It became apparent that all those who use their computer for genealogical research would want to do the same thing. Many would not have the time transcribe all their documents. As we thought about this, we soon came up with an idea to help. Thus GenealogyDownloads was developed.

One of the problems in transcribing records is maintaining accuracy. We are able to obtain 100% accuracy by transcribing each file twice. The two transcribed files are then compared using a computer software program. Each discrepancy is then compared with the original and corrections are made. When the two files have been corrected and are identical, they are 100% accurate.
